Go ahead, test the waters

ant testing the water

We often say the phrase, “take the plunge” or “take a leap of faith” when we consider making changes in our lives, but sometimes little changes are amazing too.  Subtle transition is often over looked because we’ve trained ourselves to wait for ‘the big reveal’ or that we should only celebrate something monumental.  I think, some of the littlest changes are the ones worth celebrating the most.

Think about a time when you were trying to give something up, for example.  For many people, addiction of any kind (food, caffeine, alcohol, or tobacco), can be a tough mountain to climb and the big milestones are absolutely worth celebrating.  However, an alcoholic earns his or her sobriety medallion because she/he survived each moment without succumbing to the addiction.

When a puppy finally learns to go potty outside, it’s a glorious occasion worth praise. And yet, that puppy learned and achieved tremendous feats that we might miss.  Quite literally we miss the forest through the pees.  And, when you first learned to swim, that first step of dipping your toe into the water was a completely new experience that led to amazing things.

If your daily life seems poor, do not blame it; blame yourself that you are not poet enough to call forth its riches; for the Creator, there is no poverty.<br /> Rainer Maria Rilke

Don’t be afraid to celebrate the every day moments of transformation that make us who we are, not just the big life-changing events.  Dip your toe into the water of life and breathe.

Nama-yay!
